Farmers beware—global warming getting to India

NEW DELHI, Posted September 13, 2005, orginal report by Reuters: The global problem that musn’t be named is rearing its ugly head again. Average temperatures in India will rise 3-4 degree Celisius over the next century, predicts a joint India-UK study released Thursday. While the numbers may sound small the effects of the global warming induced increase are expected to be substantial; including increases in rainfall and disease prevalence and affecting the near seventy percent of the Indian population who make their living from the land.

The report titled "Investigating the Impacts of Climate Change in India" suggested that “the impact of climate change on agriculture could result in problems with food security and may threaten livelihood activities upon which much of the population depends.”
