Why you NEED the OPX – and why
it NOW – even if you never use it!
NewFarm.org's Organic Price Index is the only place
can farmers and buyers can go to find regularly updated information
about wholesale organic prices across the country.
Farmers need this data to make good business decisions
for this season and beyond. A stable, growing supply of organic crops
is good for all parts of the organic community, from field to table.
The USDA needs this data to build organic prices into
its crop insurance program (administered by the RMA), to track the behavior
of the booming organic market, and to bring traditional USDA analysis
of U.S. agriculture’s profit and loss areas up to date.
NewFarm.org needs this data to help more farmers make
the transition to organic. The OPX is a key component of FarmSelect™,
our online calculator that lets farmers compare returns on organic and
conventional cropping choices.
You need the OPX because you need prosperous, sustainable
farms growing healthy food for your community.
The need is urgent: Plugging in fresh prices every
week is critical to documenting the dynamics of the organic marketplace.
A stronger data set means a stronger, more accurate case for organics.
Many people have already asked us for data summaries of the two years
we’ve done so far.
We just can’t afford a “data
hole” that will lower the credibility of organic market patterns.
