Most Americans Are Generally Unaware Of Genetically Modified Foods
The Food Policy Institute of Rutgers University has released a report “Americans and GM Food: Knowledge, Opinion and Interest in 2004” based on the survey responses of about 1,200 individuals. As with their previous surveys conducted in 2001 and 2003, most people had very little knowledge of GM foods, despite the fact that perhaps half of processed foods sold in the U.S. contain GM ingredients. Most (89%) favored mandatory labeling of GM content when told no such regulation exists and asked whether it should.
