| December 8, 2004:
Researchers at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia
have found that exposure to the natural insecticide rotenone
even at low levels can lead to the development of Parkinson’s
disease in monkeys.
“It provides proof of the concept that a lifetime
of exposure to certain toxins can result in Parkinson’s
disease,” Timothy Greenamyre, lead researcher
on the study, is quoted as saying in the November 6,
2004 issue of New Scientist.
The monkeys were exposed to low-levels of the pesticide
for about eighteen months.
