Horizon Organic to purchase wind energy

October 20, 2004 -- CropChoice news: Horizon Organic recently announced plans to replace, beginning January 1, 2005, the electrical power used in its operations with wind energy.

According to Horizon Organic, the switch to renewable power is part of the company's attempt to purchase enough Green Tags to compensate for the energy used in the entire product supply chain.

"Our goal is to lead the industry in environmental stewardship as we conduct business in a way that sustains and improves our environment," said Steve Demos president of Horizon Organics parent company Dean Foods. "Using renewable energy, such as wind power, is the right thing to do for our environment and our business."
