Chicken is the big winner in the war on carbs

May 19, 2004, as reported by The US chicken has benefited most from the onslaught of high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets according to a recent survey conducted by PKS Research Partners. The survey conducted for the National Chicken Council and the US Poultry & Egg Association revealed that the benefits for the chicken industry were greater than gains made by either the beef or pork industries.

Among those following the high-protein, low-carbohydrate approach to dieting, twice as many people report eating more chicken than eating more beef, and pork comes in third among the major meats, according to the survey.

“Chicken is a much bigger winner from low-carb diets than commonly realized,” said Paul Prekopa of PKS Research Partners, adding that chicken benefits from its low-fat reputation as well.
