Growing up in tequila country
The bole of the blue Agave, larger than a basketball, and usually 5-10 years old when harvested, contains the sweet juice that is fermented and distilled into tequila. While tequila prices have remained steady Agave prices have fallen drastically. In the 1990 Agave farmers could expect roughly $1,800 per hectare, now they are making about $500.
