Bayer backs out, GM canola's leaving New South Wales

June 4, 2004, as reported by just-food.com: Biotech firm Bayer Crop Science will not move forward with plans to conduct GM canola trials in New South Wales announced agricultural minister, Ian Macdonald.

The trials, which were set to take place this year, were abandoned because Bayer felt seasonal conditions were poor, Macdonald told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The announcement followed similar news from biotech rival US-based Monsanto. Monsanto has also abandoned trials to test GM canola in New South Wales.
