FAS update on Japan's biotech safety approvals

Wednesday, March 5, 2003 -- CropChoice news: Japan has approved 44 biotech varieties as food through its ongoing safety assessment process. It is illegal to import biotech varieties which have not been approved in Japan for food use. Food products containing approved biotech varieties must be so labeled, if the biotech ingredients are scientifically detectable.
