| The growing season begins with
the farmers readying their fields in October and November. Most fields are
located over 9,000 feet up in the fertile valleys high among the Chimborazo
peaks. Because of the steep slope of the indigenous land, tractors cannot
normally be used to plow the fields before planting. A community tractor
is available for rent, but for most families, it is easier to just do it
the old-fashioned way. |
