Minnnesota NRCS Organic Transition
Incentive Program Update

OCTOBER, 2002. Here are some of the final numbers from the Minnesota organic transition incentive program described in our interview with Bill Hunt, head of the Minnesota Natural Resource Conservation Service. The incentive program was very successful, and could serve as a model for other state NRCS offices.

Crops
There were apllications for incentive payments for 52,180 acres. Of those, 35,300 acres were approved. A total of $1.769 million dollars were disbursed.

Livestock
There were applications for 5,300 acres; 1,779 acres were approved, with a total payout of $44,400.
