DEAR NEW FARM:
I own 22 acres and have someone that is farming it for hay;
seeding, cutting, maintaining, etc. My question: how do I
come up with what to charge? I have been reading and some
charge per acre, some charge per bale, some charge land tax
at the end of the year. What is the best way, for both parties,
to go about what to charge?
Sincerely,
Robin
DEAR ROBIN:
This is something that is particular to your individual
situation with your farmer. For comparative information you
may want to chat around the New
Farm User Forums, but in the end it’s something
that you both have to decide together. This response from
our farm manager, Jeff Moyer, to another reader might offer
some guidance: How
do I work out a land lease agreement? Best of luck.
