DEAR NEW FARM:
How do I control powdery mildew in tomatoes and green beans
in an organic plot?
Sven Sorensen
DEAR SVEN:
You want to keep a lot of air circulation through your plants,
which means having them well spaced, well staked, keeping
foliage off the ground, and pinching the unbearing branches
(suckers) on your tomatoes. Also, avoid watering in the evening.
(Our CSA farmers at Quiet Creek Farm add: “…also,
there is not much you can do after heaps and heaps of rain;
it is going to come. Succession planting of beans in different
areas helps.”)
