DEAR NEW FARM:
I am currently a student at Rutgers University. After taking
a class on the environment and natural resources, where I
studied organic coffee operations, I became interested in
organic agriculture. I would like to become more involved
and perhaps study farming. I am just looking for some sort
of direction or ideas about the best way to go into this area.

DEAR JENNIFER:
Our Farming for
Credit Page holds a lot of resources for you. We recently
ran a feature
story about Washington State University's new organic major,
and Michigan State and Colorado State are following suit.
Probably the best thing you can do right away is get involved
with your local sustainable ag community. Check out NOFA NJ
www.nofanj.org.
NOFA also runs a summer conference in Amherst, Mass., in August:
www.nofa.org/conference/index.php.
And of course, get out there and farm! Visit this thread
in our New Farm Forums for some great ideas on how to hook
up with some real-world experience: www.newfarm.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=585.
