Q&A

DEAR NEW FARM:
We planted a small organic vineyard last year and are interested in processing the grapes for wine and grapeseed oil. I am trying to locate a market for organic grapes, seeds and grapeseed oil. I’d appreciate any ideas, tips or suggestions on the subject.

Thanks,
Ivy

DEAR IVY:
A great place to begin is to list your farm on The New Farm Locator™. This free service connects your farm with businesses, other farmers, and individuals looking for your specific products. It takes just a few minutes to build a web page for your farm and put yourself on the map for anyone who might want to be your customer.

And if you are still learning the ropes (or vines, as it were) of growing grapes organically, take a look at The Grape Grower: A Guide to Organic Viticulture by Lon Rombough (Chelsea Green, 2002) in our online bookstore.

As usual, ATTRA has a collection of resources. Check http://attra.ncat.org under “horticulture,” or call (800) 346-9140 to ask for organic grape growing information.
